action

Vince Majestyk is a former Ranger of the US Army and Vietnam War veteran who now owns a melon farm in Colorado. He has to bring in his harvest to save the farm from ruin and to cover his costs.

Petty crook Bobby Kopas tries to force Majestyk to force his unskilled workers on, but Majestyk overpowers Kopas and instead hires some skilled Mexican migrant workers, including Nancy Chavez, who Majestyk takes a liking to. Kopas charges Majestyk with an alleged attack on him, after which Majestyk is arrested and taken to the local prison. This prevents him from bringing in his harvest.

In prison, Majestyk meets Frank Renda, a notorious contract killer who is about to be moved to another prison. Renda's men attempt to free themselves during a prisoner transport, but it fails. However, during the attack, Majestyk manages to take control of the bus and flee with Renda. Majestyk wants to make a deal with the sheriff and put Renda back in jail. He hopes that he will be released for it and finish his harvest.

Renda offers Majestyk a fortune if he releases him, but Majestyk refuses, which makes Renda, who is used to buying other people, extremely angry. Renda escapes on the way to the sheriff and plans to take revenge on Majestyk. His friends advise him to go to Mexico, where he is safe from prosecution, but Renda is blinded by his desire for revenge and moves into quarters near Majestyk's farm to kill him.

With the help of the incompetent Bobby Kopas, Renda first drives Majestyks workers from the farm and destroys a considerable part of the farm's harvest. In this way, he wants to teach Majestyk a lesson "until the penny drops". But Majestyk is now angry too and decides to turn the tables. After he has succeeded in luring Renda's men into the wilderness and killing them there one after the other, there is a showdown in Renda's lair. Here the roles are wrong: the cocky Renda is afraid of Majestyk and barricades himself in his house. Majestyk shoots him at the end of a fair fight and has the pleasure of putting Bobby Kopas in jail as well.

Reviews

“The classic and often filmed story of a man with an eventful past and a sincere character, who is held back by adverse circumstances from the beginning of a quiet, good life, which challenges him to another existential struggle, tells Das Gesetz I am in the context of a stringent dramaturgy full of gripping, action-packed tension. Above all, it is the very excellent acting ensemble and the charming style of the 1970s that make this film a great, fast-paced pleasure - and of course the unforgettable Charles Bronson, who all too often was wrongly denied recognition as a character actor. "

- Marie Anderson

"Hollywood star Charles Bronson also acts as effectively in 'I am the law' as you know it from many of his films: taciturn, determined and always a bit cleverer than the cunning opponents."

- ARD

"Dense action film with a clever increase in tension."
