Ralph E. Winters

Ralph E. Winters (born June 17, 1909 in Toronto , Ontario , † February 26, 2004 in Los Angeles , California ) was a Canadian film editor .

Life

Ralph E. Winters made his editor debut in 1941 with the film The Penalty . He was first awarded an Oscar for the adventure film King Solomon's Diamonds , shot in 1950 . Just one year later he received another Oscar nomination for his work on Quo vadis? . For Ben Hur , Winters 1960 received the trophy a second time.

In 1963 he worked on the film The Pink Panther for the first time with director Blake Edwards . Eleven further collaborations followed. The 1984 film Micki & Maude was their last joint production. With Billy Wilder he worked on Avanti, Avanti! and extra sheet .

In 1991 he received the Career Achievement Award from the American Cinema Editors organization .

His last film on which he worked as an editor was the 1995 pirate film Die Piratenbraut . Subsequently, he withdrew from the film business. In 2001 he published his memoir under the title Some Cutting Remarks: Seventy Years a Film Editor .

Ralph E. Winters was married twice and has three children.
