Zachary Zenor Heinzerling (born May 11, 1984 in Houston , Texas ) is an American film director , producer and cameraman who was nominated for an Oscar .

Life

Zachary, who was born in Texas, studied philosophy and the arts before turning to filmmaking. He began his career at HBO as a production assistant. His path led him to success in a short time, as he was soon involved in four consecutive Emmy award-winning documentaries, as well as in the award-winning real-time series 24 , on which he worked as a producer and cameraman. In 2012 he left HBO and made his film debut with the multi-award-winning documentary Cutie and the Boxer , where he worked as both a producer and director and cameraman. The film earned him an Oscar nomination and other nominations, and won several awards, including three Cinema Eye Awards in various categories.

Zachary was hired by Beyoncé Knowles in 2013 to create the five-part web series Self Titled and the singer's latest album.

Awards / nominations

2014 : Nominated for an Oscar together with Lydia Dean Pilcher in the category “Best Documentary” for the documentary Cutie and the Boxer . The Oscar went to Morgan Neville , Gil Friesen and Caitrin Rogers and the film 20 Feet from Stardom .

Heinzerling was also nominated for the Cinema Eye Audience Choice Prize and the Cinema Eye Honors Award as well as the DFCS Award . There was another nomination for the DGA Award and the GFCA Award as well as the Grierson Award . Was nominated Cutie and the Boxer also at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival for the Grand Jury Prize and the Tribeca Film Festival for the Audience Award.

Zachary won the Directing Award: US Documentary at the Sundance Film Festival and the Grierson Award - Special Mention at the London Film Festival . Heinzerling won the Charles E. Guggenheim Emerging Artist Award at the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival and the Cinema Eye Honors Award at the Cinema Eye Honors Awards, US.
