Hal Needham
Hal Brett Needham (born March 6, 1931 in Memphis , Tennessee , † October 25, 2013 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American stuntman , director , actor and screenwriter .
Life
Hal Needham took part in the Korean War as a paratrooper . He began his career in the film business as a stuntman. So he doubled Burt Reynolds , with whom he later made the majority of his films. He was the founder of Stunts Unlimited and interpreted numerous small roles in a wide variety of productions, including the television series Charlie's Angels . He made his debut as a director in 1977 with A Boiled Rascal . In 1983, 1984 and 1985 he was nominated for the Golden Raspberry as worst director. Last year, his screenplay for All Hell's Going On The Highway also received an anti-award nomination.
In 1987 Needham received the Scientific and Engineering Award at the Academy Awards for the development of the so-called Shotmaker Elite camera car and crane .
At the 2001 Taurus Awards , Needham received the Lifetime Achievement Award . In 2012 Needham was awarded the Honorary Oscar for Lifetime Achievement as a Stuntman. After Yakima Canutt (1967), Needham was only the second stuntman to receive an honorary Oscar. As a stuntman and coordinator, he says he has worked for around 300 films and 4500 television series episodes.
