Xavier Legrand

Xavier Legrand (born March 28, 1979 in Melun ) is a French actor and director .

Life

Legrand had already acted at the age of ten and had joined a semi-professional theater company when he was twelve. He finally studied acting at the Paris Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique until 2005 , completed an internship under Philippe Grandrieux at the La fémis film school and initially worked as a theater actor. He has appeared in plays directed by Julie Brochen , Christian Benedetti and Alexandre Zeff and has worked at the Théâtre national de Strasbourg and several times under the direction of Christian Schiaretti at the Théâtre National Populaire in Villeurbanne . Occasionally he has appeared as a film and television actor, including 2005 in Philippe Garrel's Troublemaker .

Legrand's directorial debut, the short film Avant que de tout perdre , was released in 2013 . He had worked on the script for three years. The film follows Miriam, who wants to leave her brutal husband with her two children. Avant que de tout perdre won the Grand Prix of the Festival du Court-Métrage de Clermont-Ferrand in 2013 and a César for Best Short Film in 2014 . In 2014 it was also nominated for an Oscar in the Best Short Film category.

In 2017 Legrand completed his feature film debut with After the Judgment . The divorce drama starring Denis Ménochet , Léa Drucker and Thomas Gioria earned him the directing award at the 74th Venice Film Festival .
