In his Final Fantasy project , Owen Pallett is best known for his live performances. A loop station (a kind of sampler that can be controlled with the feet) can be used to play the sound of his violin with a time delay so that he can play different parts of his pieces simultaneously.

He himself describes his homosexuality as a great influence on his music.

In December 2009 Pallett announced that he would no longer use the name Final Fantasy and would instead only appear and publish under his real name; New editions of earlier publications would be adjusted afterwards. The background for this step, according to Pallett, was the upcoming release of his third album Heartland in Japan. Under these circumstances, he thinks it is best to clearly delineate his music from the video games of the company Square Enix in order to avoid possible copyright claims by the maker of the Final Fantasy video game series.
