Richard "Twig" John Hymns (born July 18, 1947 ) is an American sound engineer who won three Oscar for best sound editing and other film awards and was nominated for numerous film awards.

Life

Twig Hymns began his career as a sound engineer in the Hollywood film industry in 1980 for the film The Island and has worked on the production of nearly seventy films to date.

Hymns was first nominated in 1989 together with Ben Burtt for the Oscar for best sound editing in the fantasy film Willow (1988) by director Ron Howard with Val Kilmer , Joanne Whalley and Warwick Davis in the lead roles .

At the 1990 Academy Awards , he and Burtt won the Oscar for Best Sound Editing in Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade (1989) by Steven Spielberg, starring Harrison Ford , Sean Connery and Denholm Elliott . In 1990 he received his first nomination for the British Academy Film Award (BAFTA Film Award) for best sound for this film together with Tony Dawe , Ben Burtt , Gary Summers and Shawn Murphy .

He, Randy Thom, Jon Huck and David Parker received another nomination for the BAFTA Film Award for Best Sound in 1991 for Wild at Heart - The Story of Sailor and Lula (1990) by David Lynch with Nicolas Cage , Laura Dern and Willem Dafoe .

He received a second Oscar nomination for best sound editing in 1992 with Gary Rydstrom for Backdraft - Men Who Go Through Fire (1991) by Ron Howard with Kurt Russell , William Baldwin and Robert De Niro .
