June Squibb
June Louise Squibb (born November 6, 1929 in Vandalia , Illinois ) is an American actress with character roles in theater, film and television. She was best known for her roles in films such as Alice , Time of Innocence , About Schmidt and Nebraska .
life and career
June Squibb was born in 1929 in Vandalia, Illinois, and grew up there. Her mother played the piano in silent films from the 1920s. After high school, she went to Cleveland, Ohio and joined a theater company to dance. From Cleveland, she went to New York to play on Broadway theater. In the play Gypsy , in which Ethel Merman played the lead role, she made her debut at the theater.
June made her film debut as an actress at the age of 61 in Woody Allen's romantic comedy Alice 1990, alongside actors such as Joe Mantegna , Mia Farrow and William Hurt . She then played numerous character roles in film and television. She was seen in the cinema in 1992 in Martin Brest's The Scent of Women , and a year later in Martin Scorsese's Time of Innocence . In 1998 she cast Martin Brest again in his drama about death in rendezvous with Joe Black . In 2002 she hired the director Alexander Payne for his film production About Schmidt alongside Jack Nicholson , Kathy Bates , Hope Davis and Dermot Mulroney . That same year she starred in Todd Haynes ' drama The Sky So Far . In 2004 she played the role of Irma in Donald Petrie's comedy Welcome to Mooseport , and in 2011 she played Mrs. Punch in Anne Renton's comedy The Perfect Family . She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2014 for her portrayal of Kate Grant in Alexander Payne's drama Nebraska .
Her television appearances from 1995 to 2017 include appearances in the hit series: Law & Order , Emergency Room - Die Notaufnahme , For All Cases Amy , Dr. House , Two and a Half Men , Leave it, Larry! , Ghost Whisperer - Voices from Beyond , Cold Case - No Victim Is Ever Forgotten , The Millers , Glee , Devious Maids - Dirty Secrets , The Big Bang Theory , Shameless or Grey's Anatomy . She played more complex TV roles in the TV series Shadow of Passion , where she embodied the character of Pearl in 23 episodes from 2008 to 2009.
June Squibb's film career spanned more than 70 feature films and television series since 1990. She got married twice and has one son.
