The Millers is an American sitcom in multi-camera format broadcast by CBS . Greg García came up with the idea for the series . The series premiered in the United States on October 3, 2013, and ProSieben has been broadcasting in Germany since February 4, 2014.

action

The focus of the series is Nathan Miller, a newly divorced local reporter whose life got stuck at the beginning of the series. Due to the fact that his parents always considered him the more successful child, he hid his divorce from his wife Janice from them for several months. But when his parents found out about the divorce one day, after 43 years of marriage, father Tom also wants a divorce from mother Carol, which surprised Nathan and his sister Debbie. In connection with this statement it emerges that their parents' marriage has been broken for years, but the two still wanted to act as role models for their children. As a consequence of the separation of Tom and Carol, Tom moves in with his daughter Debbie, her husband Adam and their daughter Mikayla and Carol to their son Nathan.

On January 18, 2013, CBS ordered a pilot episode entitled Unauthorized Greg Garcia Pilot , written by Greg García and directed by James Burrows .

First Will Arnett was hired for the central lead role, but at the time it was still uncertain whether he would be available as he was still under contract with the NBC series Up All Night . However, the series was discontinued in May 2013. Next up, Margo Martindale was cast in the role of mother. A short time later, the role of Nathan's friend Ray was cast with JB Smoove and that of his sister Debbie with Mary Elizabeth Ellis . In early March, Beau Bridges joined the cast as Nathan's father and Michael Rapaport as Debbie's husband.

On May 10, CBS ordered the series under the title The Millers . Shortly after ordering the series, Mary Elizabeth Ellis and Michael Rapaport left the series. Less than two months later, the roles of the two were cast with Jayma Mays and Nelson Franklin . In mid-August 2013, Eliza Coupe landed the recurring role of Nathan's ex-wife Janice.

The series premiered on October 3, 2013 behind an episode of The Big Bang Theory . Due to the almost constant audience ratings, CBS increased the number of episodes in the series in October 2013 with the so-called back nine order from 13 to 22. In March 2014, the extension for a second season was announced. Ultimately, the first season consists of 23 episodes. For the second season, Sean Hayes was hired for a new leading role in early July 2014 .

In November 2014, CBS announced the discontinuation of the series. The last episode was shot on November 17, 2014.

Charisma

United States

The first episode of the series aired on October 3, 2013 on CBS and was viewed by nearly 13.1 million viewers. The first season finale was shown on May 15, 2014. The broadcast of the second season began on CBS on October 20, 2014. After five episodes of the second season shown, the broadcaster took the series off the schedule. It is unclear whether the remaining six episodes produced will be shown at a later date.

Germany

After ProSiebenSat.1 Media had already secured the broadcasting rights in June 2013, ProSieben broadcast the first 19 episodes from February 4 to June 10, 2014. The remaining episodes of the first season have been broadcast by the pay TV station since February 27 TNT series.

The first broadcast of the second season took place from May 21 to June 26, 2015 in ProSieben's night program.

Leanne Aguilera and Jenna Mullins from E! Said online that the "wonderful cast" gives them some hope. Newsday's Diane Werts rated the television series an A-. David Hinckley of the New York Daily News gave the sitcom 1 out of 5 stars. Nina Rehfeld from the FAZ thinks that Greg García created "such an old-fashioned comedy series that you feel like you are in a repeat from the eighties".
