Neil Meron

Neil Meron (born October 26, 1955 in Brooklyn , New York City ) is an American film producer , best known for the films Chicago (2002) and Hairspray (2007). Together with Craig Zadan , he leads Storyline Entertainment .

Life

Neil Merlon attended Samuel J. Tilden High School in Brooklyn and then Brooklyn College , which he graduated in 1976. He became Craig Zadan's assistant and the two produced musicals in the SoHo Ballroom. The two aroused the interest of Joseph Papp , who brought them to the Public Theater in New York. The two then worked for Peter Gruber. Zadan went to Hollywood in 1979 and Meron followed him three years later. In the mid-1980s, the two founded Storyline Entertainment and produced for cinema and television.

Her television work was particularly popular in the 1990s. They produced successful television films with star ratings for CBS and ABC . The most popular was the film Gypsy with Bette Midler , a film adaptation of the musical of the same name , nominated for 12 Emmys and a Golden Globe . The Disney production Cinderella with Whitney Houston and Brandy was also produced by Meron.

The two main work was musicals, but they also produce biopics .

In 2013, the two produced the 85th Academy Awards .

Neil Meron and Zadan have been nominated eight times for an Emmy. Both received the 2008 Career Achievement Award from the Casting Society of America.
