Aquél no era yo ( German That wasn't me ) is a Spanish short film by Esteban Crespo from 2012. It deals with the subject of child soldiers .

action

Paula and Jaunjo are Spanish development workers and drive through Africa with Conductor, their tour guide. The vehicle is stopped by child soldiers at a street post. While Conductor shows the papers, Jaunjo talks to Kaney, one of the child soldiers. When a general noticed this, he had the aid workers and their leader arrested on the pretext that they had attempted to kidnap soldiers.

An adult Kaney speaks in front of a large crowd and describes how he wasn't sure whether the three had really tried to kidnap child soldiers, but that he really didn't care.

The three people were taken hostage in a military facility. The general asks which of his young soldiers is brave enough to shoot the prisoners. One of the children opens fire, kills Conductor, but accidentally injures another child. The general praises the child, but then orders Kaney to kill the injured child, as it is now crippled and no longer suitable for being a soldier. At first Kaney is reluctant, but then kills his former comrade despite his pleading. Jaunjo yells that they are losing their humanity and tells Kaney in shock that it was his friend. Kaney gets angry and shoots Jaunjo.

Kaney explains that family is very important in his culture. The general was something like his father, so he obeyed him blindly.

Paula is now the last survivor of the helpers. Teniente is handcuffed to her and begins to rape her while Kaney stands guard. But the camp is attacked and Teniente has to break off. Paula hides in the complex while the entire camp is wiped out by the military. When she tries to escape in an abandoned jeep, she discovers Kaney, who is still alive. She grabs a gun and forces Kaney to come with her. At a fork, she asks Kaney for directions to town, but Kaney refuses to give her any information. Paula promises him a warm bed, but he continues to refuse. She then explains that if they fall into the hands of the army, they will not be able to protect him. Kaney, on the other hand, says that if she fell into the hands of his people, he would make sure they had fun with her. Finally Paula shoots him in the leg and yells at him that he is now a cripple and asks what would happen to him now.

Kaney finishes his speech and you can see Paula sitting in the audience crying and applauding.
