Jay Cassidy

Jay Lash Cassidy (born August 1949 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American film editor .

Life

Jay Lash Cassidy grew up with his brother and sister, the son of Elaine and Pierre R. Cassidy in Highland Park , Illinois . He studied at the University of Michigan from 1967 to 1971 , where he worked as a newspaper photographer for The Michigan Daily and earned his bachelor's degree in American culture. He then began editing documentaries and political commercials for Charles Guggenheim . For example, he edited Jerusalem Lives and HR 6161: An Act of Congress for him . After graduating from the American Film Institute's Center for Advanced Film Studies in 1976 , he cut his first feature film in 1978 with the drama Almost Crying .

Since Cassidy made Sean Penn's directorial debut with Indian Runner in 1991 , he has been the editor of all films that Penn has directed. So he edited the drama Into the Wild , for which he received an Oscar nomination for Best Editing in 2008 .
