Christopher Benstead

Christopher "Chris" Benstead (* December 1981 ) is a British sound engineer . At the 2014 Academy Awards , he received the Oscar for the feature film Gravity in the Best Sound category .

Life

He grew up in East Yorkshire in northern England . He attended South Holderness Technology College and studied music and sound engineering at the University of Surrey at Guildford , where he graduated in 2004.

He was then involved in films such as Love Indian , Sahara Desert Adventures, and 10,000 BC . In 2010 he founded the film production company Splice Music Ltd. In 2014, he and Skip Lievsay , Niv Adiri and Chris Munro received the Oscar for Gravity in the "Best Sound" category. He also received a British Academy Film Award for the feature film in 2014 .

He lives in Surrey with his wife, Bryony, and two children .
