Joel Harlow
Joel Harlow (born 20th century in Grand Forks , North Dakota ) is an American makeup artist .
Life
Harlow grew up in North Dakota. His desire to become a makeup artist arose after watching the movie King Kong and the White Woman as a child . As an adolescent he moved to New York City and attended the School of Visual Arts where he studied animation , but then he became interested in makeup. His first work can be seen in the films Atomic Hero II ( Toxic Avenger II ) and Toxic Avenger III as well as Basket Case 2 . He then went to New York, where he found a job with Steve Johnson's XFC.
He worked on various Hollywood productions, including all four films in the Pirates of the Caribbean series, AI - Artificial Intelligence , Planet of the Apes , Constantine and The Grinch . He has been Johnny Depp's personal makeup artist for several years .
For his work on Star Trek he received an Oscar in 2010 along with Barney Burman and Mindy Hall . He received another nomination in 2014 for his work on Lone Ranger and in 2017 for Star Trek Beyond . He has also won three Emmy awards , the first in 1994 for makeup for Stephen King's The Stand miniseries and in 1997 for The Shining miniseries .
