History of origin

The lyrics of the song are by Dennis Spiegel , the music by Bruce Broughton . The two wrote the song for the film of the same name. Joni Eareckson Tada has suffered from quadriplegia since a swimming accident when she was 18 . The evangelical pastor and artist has a reduced lung volume and is actually not able to sing. Ken Tada, her husband, put pressure on her diaphragm during the recording to give her enough air to breathe. So she could sing her song.

Oscar nomination

On January 16, 2014, the nominations for the Academy Awards 2014 were published and Alone Yet Not Alone was among the nominated songs for best movie song. 14 days later, the jury announced that it would disqualify the song after it became known that film composer Bruce Broughton, former governor and member of the academy's music branch, had emailed parts of the jury to remind them of his song and one To achieve nomination. However, this is against the rules of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which penalize any influence on the jury as a rule violation. In addition, Broughton took advantage of his position and his influence. Broughton himself was disappointed with this decision. He justified his behavior by saying that he had to compete with his song against movie songs that had months in advance of advertising. He was afraid that his piece would have been overlooked.

The controversy also led to an increase in awareness. So the song increased sequentially at number 19 of the Billboard charts for Christian music . Joni Eareckson Tada was also allowed to perform the song at the Movieguide Faith and Values Awards.
