Joni Eareckson Tada (born October 15, 1949 in Baltimore , Maryland , USA ) is an American author and artist .

Joni Eareckson is the youngest of four sisters.

On July 30, 1967, she contracted a cervical fracture between the 4th and 5th cervical vertebrae in a swimming accident in Chesapeake Bay . Since that day she has been quadriplegic with no prospect of a cure. Eareckson was treated first in the city hospital, later in the rehabilitation clinics Green Oaks and Rancho Los Alamos. Thanks to the most intense training, she can raise and lower her arms to a certain extent, but cannot move her fingers and wrists.

Eareckson used to be an avid equestrian . After the accident, she sold her horses and other things that were valuable to her at the time, which she would not be able to do anything with in the future, and built a new life. Eareckson is an artist and uses the brush with his mouth. She signs her drawing "PTL" (Praise the Lord) because she has a strong Christian faith . Joni Eareckson Tada sang the theme song Alone Yet Not Alone for the film of the same name, which was nominated for an Oscar in the category "Best Original Song".
