Her Fate was filmed in 1979, in which she herself played the leading role. She has been married to Ken Tada since 1982. She still lives in the USA.

In 1979 she founded Joni and Friends International Disability Center , a Christian charity for the disabled that broadcasts daily radio programs, offers vacations for the disabled and their families, collects old wheelchairs in the Wheels for the World campaign and restores them for the developing world and Christian communities in How to deal with the disabled.
Eareckson Tada has an advisory role with the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization in the area of disabled work.
For her work she received four honorary doctorates and several awards from organizations for the disabled. She has also been recognized as an author of Christian books.
