Peter von Lengerke (born July 18, 1651 in Hamburg ; † November 18, 1709 there ) was a German lawyer and mayor of the Hanseatic city of Hamburg.

Life

Peter von Lengerke was the son of the Hamburg merchant Johannes von Lengerke († 1664 or 1665) from Lübeck and the grandson of Lübeck councilor Georg von Lengerke . After the death of his father, he attended the Fridericianum Schwerin , the Pforta state school and the academic high school in Hamburg and studied law at the universities of Helmstedt and Leiden . In Helmstedt he wrote a congratulatory letter in 1672 on the occasion of Johann Heinrich Bötticher's doctorate with Hulderich von Eyben . In 1675 he went on his Grand Tour through Europe. In 1677 he received his doctorate to obtain a licentiate in both rights at the University of Basel , where he is also documented as a respondent . He returned to Hamburg and was initially a lawyer , then in 1681 a judge at the lower court. In 1688 he was elected councilor of the Hanseatic City of Hamburg. As such he was also ambassador , and represented the city at the courts in Munster and Vienna . From 1697 until his death he was one of Hamburg's mayors. A mayor's penny was minted on his death .

He was married to Anna Margaretha Westermann (1654–1718), daughter of councilor Caspar Westermann (1622–1688). The Canon Caspar von Lengerke was his son. The daughter Margaretha married the mayor Johann Anderson (1674-1743).
