Caspar von Lengerke

Caspar von Lengerke (born May 16, 1683 in Hamburg ; † October 18, 1738 there ) was a German lawyer and canon of Hamburg .

Origin and family

Lengerke was the son of Hamburg mayor Peter von Lengerke (1651–1709) from his marriage to Anna Margaretha Westermann (1654–1718), daughter of Senator Caspar Westermann (1622–1688). His sister Margaretha married the mayor Johann Anderson (1674–1743).

On May 12, 1722 he married Anna Dorothea Richters (1701–1736) and had six sons and two daughters with her. His wife died a month after giving birth to their eighth child. His daughter Margaretha Catharina (1727–1778) became in 1759 the second wife of the rector at the Buxtehude high school Lorenz Joachim Müller (1716–1771).

Life

Lengerke became cathedral vicar in Hamburg on April 7, 1694 . After finishing school, he studied law at the University of Halle and held a disputation under Samuel Stryk (1640-1710) in March 1705 . He then moved to the University of Groningen , where he received his doctorate on August 21, 1706 as a doctor of law with a dissertation under Alexander Arnold Pagenstecher (1659-1716).

After completing his studies, Lengerke traveled to Holland , Brabant , France and Italy and finally returned to Hamburg. On June 28, 1708 he was appointed canon at Hamburg Cathedral .
