Joe Walker is a British film editor .

Life

Walker began working in film in the late 1980s, first as a sound designer ( sound editor ). In the mid-1990s he switched to film editing and was mainly involved in television series and films until the 2000s.

The 2008 film Hunger marked the first collaboration with director Steve McQueen . Shame followed in 2011, and two years later they made their third film together, 12 Years a Slave .

Occasionally he is also active as a composer of film music, for example in 2004 for the television film Dirty War .

In 2012 , Walker won the European Film Award in the Best Editing category for Shame . There was also a nomination for the British Independent Film Awards 2011 .

For his work on 12 Years a Slave , Walker was nominated for various film awards, including an Oscar in the category Best Editing in 2014 . He received another Oscar nomination for the science fiction film Arrival (2016).
