occupation

Brighton Rock is a British gangster drama from 2010 about the fate of Pinkie Brown, a small crook in the English seaside resort of Brighton in the 1960s. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Graham Greene (1938), which was filmed by John Boulting under the same title in 1947 .

In contrast to the novel and the first film adaptation, which both take place in the 1930s, the new edition was postponed to 1964. The film was mainly shot in Eastbourne with only a few scenes shot in Brighton itself.

action

Brighton in the early 1960s: When the leader of his small gang specializing in protection money is murdered, the petty criminal Pinkie swears revenge and slays a member of the hostile gang. By chance, the young waitress Rose is photographed with gang member Spicer and the victim. Pinkie is then put on Rose to get the photo. An unhappy love story develops between Pinkie and Rose. When Pinkie tries to become the boss of the gang and at the same time trick the protection troops of his opponent Colleoni, he gets caught between the front lines and ultimately fails.

criticism

The lexicon of international film was largely positive, "even if this adaptation approach as an attempt to update is not convincing, thanks to the remarkable cast of actors a captivating crime drama succeeds."
