Nonso Anozie (born May 28, 1979 in Lincoln , Lincolnshire ) is a British actor of Nigerian origin.

life and career

Nonso Anozie was born in England to Nigerian parents. He trained as an actor at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London , which he graduated in 2002.

In the summer of the same year he played the title role in William Shakespeare's play King Lear on the theater stage . In 2004 he was given the lead role in a Shakespeare performance for the second time in Othello and he won an Ian Charleson Award for his performance .

In 2006 Anozie was hired to take on the dubbing of the polar bear Iorek Byrnison in Chris Weitz's fantasy film The Golden Compass . However, on the decision of the studio, he was replaced by the better-known actor Ian McKellen . However, Anozie was able to speak for this role in the video game of the same name for the film, as McKellen was not available for this project.

In the field of film, Anozie played minor supporting roles in films such as Guy Ritchie's Rock N Rolla and Joe Wright's Atonement . In 2008 Anozie got his first leading role in Cass - Legend of a Hooligan , where he played the hooligan Cass Pennant. In 2009 he was in the multi-part BBC drama Die Besatzer ( Occupation ), which is based on the Iraq war , in the role of a US marine. In 2011 he played the character Arthur in the movie Conan . In 2012 he was part of the cast of the second season of the US series Game of Thrones , in which he played the part of Xaro Xhoan Daxos .

In the series The Bible he plays the biblical judge Samson. From 2015 to 2017 he starred in the CBS series Zoo .
