action

Animal attacks on humans have increased steadily. This was also recognized by the biologist Jackson Oz, who believes that the entire animal world has allied against humanity. His father already had this assumption without anyone wanting to believe him. In a safari camp in Botswana , Oz and his friend and colleague Abraham Kenyatta find a Land Rover attacked by aggressive lions with the survivor Chloe Tousignant. Together they set out to find the cause of the lions' unnatural behavior.

Simultaneously in Los Angeles : Journalist Jamie Campbell has the assumption that the biotech and animal feed company Reiden Global has something to do with the unusual behavior of the animals, since two lions broke out of the zoo and hunted the residents. In addition, cats suddenly disappear in the neighborhood, which is why she turns to animal researcher Mitch Morgan. With his help, she goes in search of the house cats that have suddenly disappeared. Together they find the cats all gathered in a tree, but after informing the responsible animal authority, the cats immediately return to their owners, so that Jamie and Mitch can only show the authorities an empty tree. At this point, Jamie first came across the idea of an inter-species rebellion.

They are all brought together by a hitherto unknown person and employed to analyze the events more closely and to find an antidote. The stranger turns out to be an employee of Reiden Global in the course of the series. In the further course of the series, they visit places of animal attacks and research the development of an antidote. In doing so, they find out that the feed from the Reiden Global Group triggered the behavioral changes in the animals because they were genetically modified with the mother cell (which makes plants more resistant to pathogens).

In the course of the series, the team receives part of the mother cell from a former employee of Reiden Global, which Dr. Morgan later plans to make the cure using a modified animal that is not contaminated by Reiden Global products. When they look for and find a leopard that has not been contaminated with Reiden Global products in Central Africa, Jackson is wounded shortly afterwards. On the way to the hospital, they encounter leopards and lions who take over the hospital. The last doctor in the hospital lets her in and reluctantly agrees to operate on Jackson.

Meanwhile, Jamie and Mitch try to make the cure. Abraham is looking for an animal on which to test the remedy. He finds a chained dog whose owner is about to shoot him, as everyone else in the village has already done. Abraham convinces him to give him the dog. He agrees and they catch the dog. The cure is made and the team injects it into the animal. It doesn't work though, so they try different ways. They give it to him orally, so inject a small portion into the dog's mouth so that he swallows it. This way, the drug gets into the brain faster. It works. However, the mother cell that is needed to produce the remedy has become unusable in a leopard attack in the laboratory. You are rescued by a troop of soldiers and taken to Washington DC by plane. On the way the roof tears off and everyone falls down. Jamie is pulled out of the water by a man and he takes care of him.

production

In July 2014, CBS commissioned a first season of the series Zoo without previously ordering a pilot episode . The main role went to James Wolk as Jackson Oz in November 2014 . A short time later he was followed by Nora Arnezeder , Billy Burke and Nonso Anozie in other leading roles. The female lead went to Kristen Connolly in January 2015 . Filming for the series began in New Orleans in January 2015 .

One day before the premiere, PETA criticized the animal thriller because the television station "used real wild animals for the filming, although the station had promised the animal rights activists the opposite in advance".
