Catherine Martin
Catherine Martin (born January 26, 1965 in Lindfield , Sydney , New South Wales ) is an Australian scene and costume designer . For her work on The Great Gatsby , she was honored in two categories at the 2014 Academy Awards .
Career
Catherine Martin graduated from the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney . In 1992 she worked with Baz Luhrmann on the film Strictly Ballroom - They dance against all rules , where she was responsible for the set design and won two British Academy Film Awards for her work . In 1996 she worked as a production designer on William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet . The film, in which she was also involved as a producer, earned her an Oscar nomination and another BAFTA film award. A year later Luhrmann and Martin married.
Moulin Rouge was the third collaboration between the two. The film was nominated eight times for an Oscar. Catherine Martin was able to win the only trophies for the best production design and the best costume design . Just a year later she won a Tony Award for best production design in La Bohème .
She was nominated for an Oscar for Australia in 2009. For her work in The Great Gatsby , she was awarded the Oscar for best costume design at the 2014 Academy Awards and, together with Beverley Dunn , the Oscar for best production design .
