The Lady in Number 6 is an US-American - Canadian - British documentary - short film from the year 2013. Directed by Malcolm Clarke . The film about the Holocaust survivors and pianist Alice Herz-Sommer was in 2014 with the Academy Award as " Best Documentary Short Film Award".

Alice Herz-Sommer , pianist, music teacher and survivor of the Theresienstadt concentration camp , speaks in the film about her life, her philosophy of life and the importance of music. The 109-year-old at the time of the shooting tells what music triggers, how it gave it hope, about the futility of hating and about optimism. She talks about her favorite composers and tells about life in the London apartment block where she lives. The pianist's neighbors and the cellist Anita Lasker-Wallfisch , who belonged to the Auschwitz girls' orchestra , also have their say .

John Terauds of musicaltoronto.org disliked the background music, but rated the film as a “beautiful achievement” (“Aside from the overly schlocky background music, Clarke's documentary is a beautiful effort”).

Robert Hugill from planethugill.com rated the documentary as “captivating” and “remarkable” (“An intriguing and remarkable film was released this summer, showcasing a moving and remarkable story.”).
