Sid Caesar (* 8. September 1922 in Yonkers , New York ; † 12. February 2014 in Los Angeles ) was an American jazz - saxophonist and comedian .

Life

Caesar began his career as a successful saxophonist who played in the orchestras of Charlie Spivak , Shep Fields and Claude Thornhill , as well as working in jazz combos . He later switched to acting, where he mainly took on comedic roles. He was best known in the United States for his weekly television comedy Your Show of Shows in the early 1950s.

Among other things, he played in the film A total, total crazy world and Mel Brooks - The crazy story of the world .

He was married and had three children.
