Vegas Vacation (alternatively Viva Las Vegas - Oops we come ) is an American film comedy by Stephen Kessler from the year 1997 . It is a continuation of the comedies Die schrillen Vier auf Fahrt (1983), Hilfe, die Amisommen (1985) and Schöne Bescherung (1989).

action

Clark Griswold receives a bonus from his company and decides that the family will go to Las Vegas for the vacation . After 20 years of marriage, Clark and Ellen want to renew their wedding vows there. On the plane, they try to have sex in the bathroom. But Ellen jams her foot in the suction opening of the vacuum toilet ; the crew helps to free them.

Clark brings his family to a Siegfried and Roy show . The magicians ask him to come on stage and make him disappear in front of the audience. Ellen and the kids continue to watch the show without him. Clark's son wants to try his hand at gambling, but anyone under the age of 21 is prohibited from playing. Clark forbids any mention of gambling. He still uses every opportunity to play himself. In doing so, he constantly loses or only wins small amounts.

The family meets cousin Eddie, who lives on a former nuclear test site nearby. Eddie's daughter Vickie and Audrey go to night clubs together.

Clark gambled away all of the family's money in the casino, a total of over $ 22,000, because he let himself be tempted by croupier Marty while playing blackjack . Cousin Eddie helps him out with the money he has buried in his garden, but Clark loses that too. Rusty has a fake ID made out showing his name, Nick Papageurgio, who is at least 21 years old, so that he can gamble. On the other hand, he is luckier than his father and wins four cars from one-armed bandits .

Clark remembers his family. He picks them up: the neglected Ellen from a date with singer Wayne Newton, Audrey from cage dancing with Vicky in a nightclub, his son from a luxury party that he has come to with a false identity.

Ellen is the only one left with money: two dollars in a garter belt. Ellen and Clark try to force their luck with this, but they lose in keno . An old man next to them is celebrating his winnings and dies in the process, his winning ticket falls to the floor, with his last words he bequeaths it to Clark. Clark takes him just before the road sweeper devours him. Clark and Ellen can marry again with the win, Eddie gets the loaned money back, the Griswolds drive back with the four cars won by Rusty.

Reviews

James Berardinelli wrote that he still remembered the time Chevy Chase was funny. That time is over. The jokes in the film are flat. Berardinelli praised Ethan Embry and Marisol Nichols, but was particularly critical of Randy Quaid.

"A mindless and pointless comedy that shows the same disinterest in the people, the events and the setting in Las Vegas."

Awards

Beverly D'Angelo was nominated for the Kids' Choice Award in 1998 .

background

The comedy was shot in Arizona , California and Nevada . It grossed $ 36.4 million at the US box office.
