Wayne Newton
Wayne Carson Newton (born April 3, 1942 in Roanoke , Virginia ) is an American pop singer , actor and entertainer , who was best known for his numerous shows in Las Vegas .
Artistic career
Newton first grew up with his family, who had both English, Irish, Scottish and Indian roots, in Roanoke (Virginia) . At the age of six he began to learn to play the piano and guitar and has already appeared regularly on a radio program. During the early years of his school years, he performed in several local music competitions with his older brother. At that time he lived with his family in Newark, Ohio until they had to move to Phoenix, Arizona in 1952 because of his asthma . There he got his own TV show as a schoolboy. He has now mastered over ten musical instruments, which prompted an agent from Las Vegas to put him and his brother in a show in Las Vegas. In 1962 he recorded his first single with his brother as "The Newton Brothers" on the small label George . Appearances on US-wide television shows followed, where he caught the attention of Bobby Darin . He produced three singles with the two Newton brothers on Capitol Records . All three records were included in the Hot 100 hit list by the US music magazine Billboard , with the Bert Kaempfert title Danke Schoen receiving the best rating with 13th place.
From 1964 Wayne Newton's name appeared alone on the record labels, after two singles with Newton alone had appeared on Challenge Records in early 1964 . Capitol produced 18 singles with Newton by 1967, but none of the titles reached the top 10 of the American hit lists. In 1968 Newton moved to the record company MGM , but only one of the seven singles found entry into the Hot 100. With its first release on the Chelsea Records label in 1972, he achieved his greatest record success. The track Daddy, Don't You Walk So Fast rose to number four on Billboard and was awarded a gold record by the RIAA for over one million records sold. The record contract with Chelsea expired in 1976, followed by a few productions at other record companies and in 1980 Newton had his last chart success with the title Years (Hot 100/35.).
Newton was much more successful with his shows in Las Vegas. In 1994 he entered there for 25,000. Mal on what the synonym "Mr. Las Vegas ”. He has been named "Entertainer of the Year" several times and set standards for the entertainment industry. In 1999 he signed a 10-year contract with the Stardust hotel casino in Las Vegas, which guaranteed him regular show appearances for 40 weeks a year. In order to be able to take care of his family more, Newton canceled the contract in 2005. Instead, he started working for the television station E! Entertainment Television the reality game show The Entertainer .
After Newton had appeared in episodes 230 and 250 of the Bonanza TV series in 1966 , he took on the lead role in the 1969 film 80 Steps to Jonah . By 2013 he worked in eleven movies, he also had numerous roles in other television series, including several episodes on North and South (Torches in the Storm) .
