Jerome Charles "Jerry" Weintraub (born September 26, 1937 in New York City , New York - † July 6, 2015 in Santa Barbara , California ) was an American film producer .

Life

After finishing school, Jerry Weintraub served in the United States Air Force . In the 1960s, he produced Elvis Presley's first US-wide tour . He then founded the Concerts West company. With this he produced and presented tours by bands such as Led Zeppelin and the Beach Boys .

Prior to his Hollywood career, he was the manager of the singer John Denver . He also produced some television specials for this in the mid-1970s. In 1975 he produced his first feature film with Nashville , directed by Robert Altman . Several television productions followed, including two for singer Neil Diamond . From the early 1980s onwards he made regular feature films, including the Karate Kid film series and later Ocean's Eleven and its two sequels.

In 1985 he was the head of the United Artists for almost six months . He later founded his own film production company, Weintraub Entertainment Group.

In 1991, Jerry Weintraub was appointed to the Board of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts by then President of the United States, George HW Bush . He held this position until the late 1990s.

In 1975 Jerry Weintraub was awarded an Emmy for the television production An Evening with John Denver . In his honor there is a star on the Walk of Fame . He was also nominated four times for the Golden Raspberry , the first time in 1980 for the film Cruising . The other nominations are from the 1990s, including for The Specialist .

Private life

Weintraub had a son from his first marriage and three adopted children from his second marriage to singer Jane Morgan in 1965 .

Jerry Weintraub died of a heart attack on July 6, 2015 at the age of 77 in a hospital in Santa Barbara, California.
