Konrad Sasse

Konrad Sasse (born October 3, 1926 in Wernigerode ; † July 22, 1981 in Dessau ) was a German musicologist and Handel researcher.

Life

After graduating from the Fürst-Otto-Gymnasium in Wernigerode in the Harz Mountains in 1946 , he studied musicology a . a. with Max Schneider and Walther Siegmund-Schultze at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg , which he completed with the state examination and doctorate for Dr. phil. graduated with a thesis on Robert Franz (1962). The work was revised and edited in 1986 by Edwin Werner .

From 1954 to 1956 Sasse was secretary at the Handel Festival in Halle. From 1956 to 1981 he was director of the Handel House in Halle. At the same time he was in charge of the library of the Handel House Foundation .

In 1959 he became a board member of the Georg Friedrich Händel Society . From 1963 to 1968 he headed the instrumentation working group within the Society for Music Research. From 1967 to 1971 he was President of the GDR country group of the International Association of Music Libraries . Until 1974 he was also a member of the executive committee. He was also a visiting professor for music history at the German Academy for Political Science and Law . From 1971 he was also a lecturer for instrument science at the Humboldt University in Berlin and the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg.

He has written numerous relevant publications, including a Handel bibliography and studies on opera .
