criticism
The Protestant film observer sums up his judgment as follows: “American wide-screen color comedy about a somewhat dodgy, happily married husband and prevented women heroes and his great 'teacher' [...]. An original idea, an adequate visual image, good staging and top performance - but what is the point (despite the sterile end) of such a marriage fight these days? No endorsement. ”The lexicon of international films succinctly notes that the film is a tabloid comedy in the popular Hollywood style. The critic of Film-Rezensions.de came to a largely positive verdict: “In parts the episodic 'Guide for the Married Man' looks like a sitcom, which in this case doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing, because despite the amoral tips that Given with a wink of the eye, Gene Kelly's film is able to entertain excellently at least up to the last half hour, if one does not expect a profound philosophy or sophisticated humor, which is not afraid to appear in its silliest guise, preferably as a quasi-silent film, underscored by prancing Music by the later Star Wars composer John Williams.
