Wally Cox

Wallace Maynard Cox (born December 6, 1924 in Detroit , Michigan , † February 15, 1973 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor and writer.

Life

Wally Cox grew up in Evanston , Illinois with his future boyfriend Marlon Brando . During the Second World War , the family moved to New York , where Wally wanted to begin a metal training course after the war. He attended the City College of New York and studied at New York University . While helping his sick mother by selling jewelry in a small shop and at parties, he came up with funny texts that were well received by customers. He developed his talent in nightclubs from December 1948 until he met Marlon Brando again by chance. Brando managed to get him excited about acting, so they eventually took acting classes together.

The first film offers followed in the years 1948–1949. He gained national fame with the lead role in the sitcom Mr. Peepers (1952–1955), which was still broadcast live . The role of Mr. Peepers, for which he received two Emmy nominations, made him a celebrated television star in the United States. Then Cox played in other television productions, especially the role of Hiram Holliday in The Strange Adventures of Hiram Holliday (1956-1957) increased his popularity.

From then on he was a very sought-after actor who was not limited to television productions. He also played in the theater and was a frequent guest on television shows such as The Hollywood Squares . In addition to his acting, Cox also made a name for himself as a musician and singer (he could even yodel) and a writer. After Cox's death, Marlon Brando kept his ashes at home for 30 years and only after Brando's death were both ashes scattered.
