history

The Disibodenberg winery , located near Odernheim , was created in the high Middle Ages as an external farm of the Disibodenberg monastery on the southern slopes of the mountain of the same name. The Cistercian monastery gained cultural and historical importance because the mystic Hildegard von Bingen lived there for over thirty years. In addition, Cistercian monks have generally shaped viticulture in Germany , because according to the rules of the Cistercian order , each monastery had to have its own vineyard. The oldest grapevine in Germany from the 16th century was found in the neighborhood a few years ago. A listed vineyard house from 1811, in which medieval spoil was used, belongs to the winery .

From the middle of the 18th century to 1992, the estate was privately managed by the Schmidt family from Odernheim, who expanded the winery and the associated vineyard property considerably since the late 1960s. Although it was still unusual at the close, the focus was from that time on Burgundy grape varieties , especially the Pinot Noir ( Pinot Noir ). Today is the vineyard Mont Fort , the oldest and largest burgundy mounting position close to the in the 1970s under the direction of Fritz Ritter, head of the Institute of Viticulture in Geisenheim , was created with different Pinot Noir clones.
