Majel Barrett-Roddenberry (born February 23, 1932 as Majel Leigh Hudec in Columbus , Ohio , † December 18, 2008 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actress and the wife of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry .

Life

Majel Barrett played various roles on the Star Trek series. Her first role was as First Officer Number One on the USS Enterprise in the first pilot in 1964, The Cage . Since the producers requested various changes for the subsequent series Raumschiff Enterprise , Gene Roddenberry cast her here in a minor supporting role as nurse Christine Chapel .

In his autobiography , Gene Roddenberry wrote:

“I made Leonard Nimoy first mate and Majel Barrett my wife and nurse on the Enterprise. Even if Leonard is a very nice guy, I've never regretted it. "

From 1987 she played the Betazoid ambassador Lwaxana Troi , the mother of Deanna Troi in Starship Enterprise: The Next Century , who also made several appearances in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine .

Until her death in 2008, she worked on all Star Trek series and films that had appeared up to then: In addition to her roles in the original series, in The Next Century and Deep Space Nine , she lent her voice to the on-board computers of the spaceships in all series and films the Federation. She was also executive producer of the science fiction series Mission Earth and Andromeda , which are based on designs by her husband. In the science fiction series Babylon 5 , she played the role of Lady Morella, a Centauri.

She was married to Gene Roddenberry from 1969 until his death in 1991. The two have a son, television producer Eugene Wesley "Rod" Roddenberry Jr. (born February 5, 1974). Majel Barrett died in Bel Air in December 2008 at the age of 76 of complications from leukemia .
