Joe Viskocil
Joseph William "Joe" Viskocil (born December 21, 1952 - August 11, 2014 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American special effects artist .
Life
Viskocil began his career in the mid-1980s and made his feature film debut in 1983 with Ivan Reitman's comedy Ghostbusters . In 1997 he won the Oscar in the category Best Visual Effects for Roland Emmerich's Independence Day together with Volker Engel , Douglas Smith and Clay Pinney . At the BAFTA Film Awards , Independence Day was inferior to Jan de Bont's Twister in the Best Visual Effects category .
Viskocil, who specialized in pyrotechnics within special effects , died in Los Angeles in 2014 at the age of 61.
