Ken Weston

Kenneth William "Ken" Weston (born May 30, 1947 in London , † April 13, 2001 ibid) was a British sound engineer who was awarded an Oscar for his work on Gladiator . Between 1974 and 2001 he worked on over 50 films.

Life

Weston was born in London but grew up in Borehamwood . He was initially involved as a sound assistant in the films On behalf of the dragon , Bugsy Malone , Flash Gordon and Amadeus , among others . In 1978 he was also in front of the camera at 12 o'clock at night as an actor in a small role. From 1983 Weston worked as a sound engineer. He was involved in productions such as Another Country , Robin Hood - A Life for Richard the Lionheart and White Squall - Tearing Current . For Evita , Weston received an initial Oscar nomination for Best Sound and a BAFTA nomination.

Weston was a founding member of the Association of Motion Picture Sound. His greatest success was the sandal film Gladiator , for which he received an Oscar in the category Best Sound in 2001. At that time, his kidney cancer was so advanced that he could not attend the award ceremony on March 25, 2001. Scott Millan and Bob Beemer , who received the Oscar together with Weston, dedicated the Oscar to him. Less than a month later, Weston succumbed to his illness. The Independent wrote in an obituary that Weston died at the height of his career. Weston was a second marriage and had two biological children.
