Jeff Wexler

Jeff Wexler is an American sound engineer .

Life

Wexler grew up in Chicago and did his master's degree in sociology in San Francisco with the real plan to become a teacher. Through his father, the Oscar- winning cinematographer Haskell Wexler , he got a job as a production assistant on Hal Ashby's black comedy Harold and Maude during the semester break in 1969 . Based on this experience, Wexler decided to rethink his previous life plans, turned to the film business and became a sound engineer. Between 1976 and 1981, Wexler worked on eight of Ashby's other films, including Coming Home and Welcome Mr. Chance , in which his father was a cameraman. Wexler had another long collaboration with Cameron Crowe , between 1996 and 2015 including Jerry Maguire - Game of Life and Vanilla Sky .

In 1997 he was nominated for a BAFTA Film Award and an Oscar for his performance on Independence Day . In 2001 he received a Primetime Emmy and a BAFTA Film Award , and a second Oscar nomination followed in 2004 for Last Samurai .
