Staying Alive is an American feature film from 1983. It is the sequel to the hit film Saturday Night Fever . The plot is set on the Broadway scene in New York .
action
The plot of the film begins five years after Just Saturday Night . Tony Manero's addiction to dance still keeps him on his feet, although he has long since left Brooklyn and is a long way from the dance club where he became famous. He lives in poor conditions and unsuccessfully applies to various agencies. Tony regularly trains in a choreography group. He has a relationship with his fellow dancer Jackie, and they both make it into training for the great Broadway show Satan's Alley under the supervision of a strict director . However, their relationship is put to the test when Tony sees the beautiful leading actress Laura for the first time. Laura is rich and confident. In order to land with Laura, he transfers Jackie. He starts an affair with Laura. When he wants more from her, she puts him down. Jackie sees that her relationship with Tony cannot go on like this and breaks up. They only get closer again when Tony asks them to practice with him because he wants to apply for the role of lead actor. He also gets this role, but realizes quickly that nothing will come of a relationship with Laura and that his love for Jackie has only been masked by his initial desire.
A short cutscene interrupts the conflict and directs our attention to another problem area. Tony visits his mother at her old home in Brooklyn. Grandmother and father have since passed away. Tony asks her forgiveness for his selfishness and finally manages to get his lonely mother a card for the play.
Finally the evening of the performance comes, and while the dance is going on there is a small power struggle between Laura and Tony, which ends in a draw. After the show, which was a great success, Tony announced to Laura that he was clear about his feelings and after a kiss he said goodbye. When asked where he was going, he just replied “strut” - an allusion to Travolta's peculiar gait. With a new self-confidence, Tony struts along Times Square like in the old days .
