Anne V. Coates
Anne Voase Coates , OBE (born December 12, 1925 in Reigate , Surrey , United Kingdom - † May 8, 2018 in Woodland Hills , Los Angeles ) was a British film editor .
Live and act
Prior to her career in the film business, Coates worked as a nurse. From 1947 she worked as an assistant editor in the field of film editing . She presented her first independent work as an editor in 1952. In 1962 she was awarded the Oscar for Best Film Editing by Lawrence of Arabia . In her further career, she received four more Oscar nominations. Coates has worked as a film editor on famous films such as Murder on the Orient Express (1974), The Elephant Man (1980), In the Line of Fire - The Second Chance (1993) and Erin Brockovich (2000). In 1978 she received the only producer credit of her career for the film The Horror of Medusa . She worked as an editor well into old age, most recently in 2015 for the erotic film Fifty Shades of Gray .
Coates was married to director Douglas Hickox since 1958 . Together they had three children, director Anthony Hickox , editor Emma E. Hickox and director James DR Hickox .
In 1995 she received the Career Achievement Award from the American Cinema Editors . In 2003 she was appointed Officer of the British Empire . In 2007 she received the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Honorary Award . In 2016 she was awarded the Oscar of Honor . She died in May 2018, aged 92, at the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital in Woodlands Hills, Los Angeles.
