action

Martha Marie / Marty Talridge lives parallel in New York City and in the south of France . If she goes to sleep in one life, she wakes up in the other life with full awareness of what is happening in the other world. She is a successful publisher in New York City and a single widow in the south of France.

In both worlds, Marie / Marty seeks advice from the psychiatrist. She tells the psychiatrists about the sessions with the other doctor.

In New York she meets the literary agent Aaron Reilly, with whom she falls in love. In the south of France, she meets the writer William Granther, with whom she starts a relationship. When she tells the men about each other's life and relationship, they become jealous.

At the end of the film, Marie / Talridge says goodbye in both worlds to their respective life partners and the other people who are close to her.

Reviews

James Berardinelli described the film on ReelViews as "embarrassingly" and "bad". It would finally cement the actress' status as a "former star". Only the images from southern France and the Manhattan skyline would be interesting in the film. Berardinelli advised instead to watch the film The Two Lives of Veronica by Krzysztof Kieślowski .

Roger Ebert criticized the structure of the film and the script in the Chicago Sun-Times of May 26, 2000.

“Incredible psychodrama that is exhausted in mere surface arrangements. Instead of credible figure drawings, only (pseudo-) psychoanalytic cutting patterns are used. "

Awards

Demi Moore was nominated for the Golden Raspberry in 2001.
