Sinéad Moira Cusack [ ʃɪˈneːd̪ ˈmɔɪɹɘ ˈkjuːzæk ] (born February 18, 1948 in Dalkey , County Dublin ) is an Irish actress .

Life

Sinéad Cusack was born in Dalkey to the actors and actresses Cyril and Maureen Cusack . She is the sister of actresses Sorcha Cusack , Niamh Cusack and the half sister of Catherine Cusack . In her youth she had a relationship with footballer George Best .

She has been married to British actor Jeremy Irons since 1978 . The marriage resulted in the two sons Samuel James (Sam, born 1978) and Maximilian Paul (Max, born 1985). A decade before their marriage, Sinéad Cusack had an illegitimate son in 1968, whom she put up for adoption. Since it was revealed that this child was Irish Trotskyist politician Richard Boyd Barrett , the two have been connected again. In the 2007 election, she took part in the campaign on behalf of Barrett. Sinéad Cusack is the patron of Burma Campaign UK , a London-based group promoting human rights and democracy in Burma, Myanmar.

Career

Her first acting role was at the Abbey Theater in Dublin . In 1970 she was with Peter Sellers in the film Hoffman in front of the camera. In the television series Die 2 (Original: The Persuaders) she played in the episode Erben brings Die , German first broadcast December 19, 1972, which Jenny Lindsey alongside Tony Curtis and Roger Moore. After the Broadway performances , she toured the United States with Much Ado About Nothing , with guest appearances in Washington, DC and Los Angeles . In 1992 she starred alongside her husband Jeremy Irons in the Graham Swift film adaptation of Waterland .

One of her best-known theater roles was in Our Lady of Sligo in 1998 , in which she starred as Mai O'Hara in performances in her native Ireland, on Broadway and at the National Theater. In the same year she starred alongside Pierce Brosnan in the film drama The American Nephew (The Nephew) . In 2004 she appeared in the BBC miniseries North and South and in 2006 in the film V for Vendetta ( V for Vendetta ). In 2006 she appeared on the BBC sitcom Home Again . In the 2007 thriller Deadly Promises - Eastern Promises , she played alongside Viggo Mortensen and Naomi Watts in a leading role.

In 1998 she received the Evening Standard Award for Best Actress and the Critics' Circle Theater Award for Best Actress.

In addition to fellow actors such as Paola Dionisotti , Harriet Walter , Fiona Shaw and Juliet Stevenson , Sinéad Cusack contributed in 1994 to the book Clamorous Voices: Shakespeare's Women Today by Carol Rutter , in which modern interpretations of female roles in Shakespeare plays are presented.
