Richard Boyd Barrett ( Irish Risteard Buíd Bairéid , born November 1968 ) is an Irish politician ( People Before Profit Alliance ) and has been a member of the Dáil Éireann , the lower house of the Irish Parliament, since 2011 .

Life

Barrett grew up in Dún Laoghaire . He studied English literature at University College Dublin . In June 2009 he was elected to the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and belonged to this until his election to the Dáil Éireann.

Boyd Barrett has been active in Ireland's anti-war movement for a number of years, including against the US military's use of Shannon Airport .

Private

He was given up for adoption as a baby and came to live with David and Valerie Boyd Barrett.

During the 2007 election campaign it became known that his mother was the actress Sinéad Cusack , with whom he has been in contact again since then and by whom he was supported in his campaign. Boyd Barrett has half-brothers Sam and Max from his mother's marriage to actor Jeremy Irons .
