Julianne Nicholson (born July 1, 1971 in Medford , Massachusetts ) is an American actress .

Life and accomplishments

Nicholson worked intermittently in New York City as a model . She made her debut in the 1997 mystery crime film Long Time Since , in which she starred alongside Paulina Porizkova .

Nicholson starred in the television series Ally McBeal from 2001 to 2002 . For her supporting role in the film drama Tully (2000) she was nominated for the Independent Spirit Award in 2003 . In 2004 she won the Film Discovery Jury Award of the US Comedy Arts Festival for her leading role in the comedy Lust auf Affair (2004) . In the comedy My Boyfriend's Ex-Girlfriends (2004) she played the role of Joyce , the ex-girlfriend of Derek ( Ron Livingston ), who befriends his current girlfriend, Stacy ( Brittany Murphy ), without knowing about the relationship.

In 2006, Nicholson starred Christina Finn in the crime series Conviction , the series had a season of 13 episodes. From 2006, Nicholson was in the lead role of Megan Wheeler from the sixth to the eighth season in the crime series Criminal Intent to be seen. Nicholson played Esther Randolph on the HBO series Boardwalk Empire . Since 2013 she has played the supporting role of Dr. Lillian DePaul in the Showtime series Masters of Sex .

In 2018 she was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.

Nicholson married British actor Jonathan Cake in 2004 . She had a son in September 2007 and a daughter in April 2009.
