British Academy of Film and Television Arts / Honorary Award
British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA): Academy Fellowship
Winner of the Academy Fellowship , which has been awarded annually by BAFTA since 1971. It is the most important award given by the British Film and Television Academy. As a rule, individuals are honored who have made outstanding and special services in the areas of cinema, television or computer game development. Until 1997, the award was presented at the jointly organized film and television awards ceremony (BAFTA Awards), but it is now presented separately as part of the British Academy Film Awards (cinema) and the British Academy Television Awards (television). Since 2007 computer game developers have also been honored as part of the British Academy Video Games Awards . The winners from all three categories receive a BAFTA mask as a trophy. A posthumous honor was given to the American film director Stanley Kubrick in 2000 .
At the British Academy Film Awards, the award of the honorary award is at the discretion of the film committee. In contrast to the regular film categories, the Academy Fellowship cannot be voted on by BAFTA members. The British Academy Television Awards have similarly strict award guidelines.
