Eric John Bartholomew (born May 14, 1926 in Morecambe , Lancashire , England , † May 28, 1984 ), known under the stage name Eric Morecambe , was a member of the English comedian duo Morecambe and Wise together with Ernie Wise .

Life

During the Second World War , Morecambe had to work in the Accrington coal mine as part of the Bevin Boys program , for which some of the conscripts were used.

Bartholomew chose his stage name after his hometown, the seaside resort of Morecambe in Lancashire . The seaside resort thanked for this with a statue on the beach, which was inaugurated personally by Queen Elizabeth II .

Its importance is also shown by the fact that it was voted 32nd place in the list of the " 100 Greatest Britons " (100 most important Britons).
