British Film Institute
The British Film Institute ( BFI ) is a not-for-profit British national organization founded in 1933 by Royal Charter . The BFI was initially founded as a private company. In 2000 it published a list of the best British television shows . The British Film Institute's film archive, the National Film and Television Archive, is located in Berkhamsted in the south of England .
aims
The aim of the foundation was to “ operate and promote the further development of the cinematic art including TV in the United Kingdom, to enable its use as a documentation medium for everyday culture and festive customs, to support knowledge and skills in dealing with cinema , television and video cameras , the media effects to investigate society, to enable access to the largest possible scope of productions of British and worldwide filmmaking and to serve the appreciation of the public through archiving and processing, collecting the entire film production of the country [= analogous to the national library] as British national heritage capture and maintain. Structure and financing
The supervisory authority of the BFI was the UK Film Council until 2011 . Since April 2011 the BFI has been directly subordinate to the Ministry of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and takes over most of the previous tasks of the UK Film Council.
The BFI is financially based on three sources of income. The largest of these is public money from the Ministry of Culture, Media and Sport. In 2003 this item was approximately £ 15 million . The second area is the BFI Southbank (formerly the National Film Theater ) and IMAX revenues , which in 2003 were approximately £ 10 million. Finally, thirdly, donations of around £ 5 million came from a variety of sources, most notably from the National Lottery . J. Paul Getty donated approximately £ 1 million on his death in 2002, according to his will.
