action

Jack Carter is a gangster from Newcastle . He now lives in London, works for Gerald Fletcher and has an affair with his lover Anna. At the beginning of the film, Jack returns home for his brother Frank's funeral. Although Frank allegedly died drunk in a car accident, Jack suspects murder and sets out to uncover the truth.

He rents a room in a small house and starts freshening up previous acquaintances. Frank's wife Margaret and her daughter Doreen, who could possibly also be Jack's child, since he had a brief affair with Margaret at the time, also belong to this group.

At a racetrack he meets Eric Paice, whom he follows to the manor of the underworld great Cyril Kinnear. There he meets Kinnear, who meets him with incomprehension, his lover Glenda. On the way home, thugs ambushed him. After he has defeated them, someone gives him the tip to talk to Cliff Brumby. He's a businessman who controls the local gambling halls. This finally reveals to him that Cyril Kinnear is Frank's killer.

Jack accompanies Glenda to her house. He happens to see a porn movie in which his niece Doreen can be seen. Margaret and Glenda also play a role in the film. Glenda, unaware of Jack's connection to Doreen, confirms that the film is owned by Kinnear and that Eric was involved in its production.

Jack starts a ruthless campaign of revenge. After eliminating the culprits, he is shot himself by a hit man.

Awards

In 1972, the film received a nomination for the UK Society of Film and Television Arts Awards for Best Supporting Actor (Ian Hendry). The British Film Institute selected Jack reckons in 1999 as the 16th best British film of all time .

After the statutory 25-year period had expired, a reassessment took place on May 13, 2009, which led to a follow-up indexing until 2034. In other European countries, the film is freely available uncut and is rated as an outstanding contribution by British film.

Reviews

“Extraordinary British gangster film, whose tense characterization of the main character between external lack of emotion and sudden outbursts of anger had a style-forming effect. In its harshness and uncompromising attitude, it is definitely representative of a particular trend in 1970s cinema. "

"Uncompromising Seventies cult film with a fantastic Michael Caine."

"Get Carter" is a tense, hard-boiled crime movie that uses Michael Caine, for once, as the sure possessor of all his unconscious authority. "

“That's what makes this film so special: the actors' play, music, scenery - it's all right, it all fits together. Rating: 10 out of 10 points "
