action
Gregory Underwood is a center-forward on his high school soccer team. Since the team is in crisis, coach Menzies tries to find a few new players. Then Dorothy appears, who turns out to be a talented player. Despite his concerns, Menzies brings the girl into the team. Dorothy soon displaces Gregory from his regular seat. He excels as a goalkeeper and displaces his buddy Andy in goal. Gregory wants to hook up with Dorothy, but so do the other boys on the team. There is no other way he can turn to his best friend Steve for advice. But even Steve can't help him.
Gregory's sister Madeline advises him to just speak to Dorothy. He takes courage and asks Dorothy for an appointment, which she accepts. But on the date, instead of Dorothy, her friend Carol appears. Carol tells Gregory that Dorothy cannot come. Gregory is disappointed, but he invites Carol for a snack. When they arrive at the snack bar, they both meet Carol's other friend Margo. Carol leaves the two, the confused Gregory takes Margo for a walk. Here they meet another friend, Susan. Margo disappears and Susan explains to Gregory that everything was planned by the friends.
Gregory is taken with Susan. They kiss and agree on another date. Andy and Charlie, two of Gregory's friends, are out of luck with girls. Now you can see that Gregory went out with three girls. In their envy, they plan to emigrate to Caracas , where there are said to be more women than men. But even with this plan, they are out of luck and fail.

Reviews
The Lexicon of International Films describes the work as an “amusing, at times wonderfully peculiar comedy about the difficulties of growing up - with loving descriptions of the environment, charming actors, an attentive eye for the absurdities of everyday life and a humane humor that one can find in other teenage films looking in vain ”.
For the US film critic Roger Ebert , Gregory's Girl was a "charming, innocent, very funny little film". Ian Schultz of Cinehouse sees a perfect example of Thatcher-era cinematography . For him, it's a compassionate film about young people and their problems.
Andy Webb from MovieScene highlights the surprising charm that emanates from the Scottish environment and the young Scottish actors. For him it is the best British film that deals with the subject of young love. Even after over 30 years, he is still sharp, amusing and real.
Gary Penton from the Movie Gazette was also enthusiastic. The film will make lanky John Gordon Sinclair a star and put Bill Forsyth on the radar as one of the UK's best contemporary directors. For him, the script is consistently the most entertaining one can find.
