Claire Patricia Grogan (born March 17, 1962 in Glasgow , Scotland ) is a Scottish actress , pop singer and children's and young adult book author .

Despite the different spelling, she has been known as Clare Grogan since the beginning of her career . She later appeared on television as CP Grogan , as there was another person of the same name in the British artists' union Equity .

Life

Clare Grogan was discovered by the Scottish film director Bill Forsyth in Glasgow , where she worked as a waitress in a restaurant. At the age of 19 she played the role of Susan in the feature film Gregory's Girl . At this point she was already enjoying her first successes as the singer of the new wave band Altered Images . With titles like Happy Birthday and I Could Be Happy , the band also became known outside of Great Britain in the early 1980s. It broke up in 1984 after the production of the third album due to decreasing audience approval.

In 1987 Grogan attempted a solo career, but had no success with her single Love Bomb . Her album Trash Mad was never released either. After that, she rarely appeared musically. In 1993 she was involved in the production of the music video Young at Heart for the group Bluebells . The title was number one on the UK singles chart for four weeks . In 2000 she contributed the vocals in the song Night Falls Like A Grand Piano from the album Hyacinths and Thistles by the band The 6ths . In The Ultimate Celtic Album , released two years later, she is represented with the piece Her Hooped Dream . For the 2003 album A Tribute to Frankie Miller , she recorded a new version of Angels With Dirty Faces . After an 18-year hiatus, she performed several times with changing musicians on the Here and Now Tour , the Rewind Festival and similar revival events in Great Britain and Ireland under the name Altered Images .

In 1985 she continued her second acting career with a minor role as a receptionist in the six-part BBC production Blott on the Landscape . In the science fiction television series Red Dwarf , she played Kristine Kochanski , but was later replaced by actress Chloë Annett . Further appearances in the series Father Ted and EastEnders as well as in the British films Bury It and The Penalty King followed. Grogan was also a presenter on the music channel VH1 and hosted a talk show. At times she helped out as a spokesperson for the radio station BBC Radio 6 Music .

Grogan made her debut as a writer in October 2008 with the children's book Tallulah and the Teenstars . It tells the story of a schoolgirl who founds a pop band and has to cope with emerging success. At the end of 2011 a sequel called Tallulah on Tour was released .

In 1994 Grogan married producer Steve Lironi , a former guitarist and drummer for Altered Images . The couple adopted a girl in 2005 and live in the London Borough of Haringey .
