Philip "Phil" Rosenberg (born January 15, 1935 in Brooklyn , New York City , New York ) is an American art director and production designer who won an Oscar in 1980 for best production design .

Life

Rosenberg began his career as an art director and production designer in the Hollywood film industry in 1968 with the film The Seagull and was involved in the production of nearly forty films by 2002.

1979 he was, along with Tony Walton , Edward Stewart and Robert Drumheller nominated for the Academy Award for Best Production Design, specifically for The Wiz - The Wizard of Oz (1978) by Sidney Lumet with Diana Ross , Michael Jackson and Nipsey Russell in the lead roles .

At the 1980 Academy Awards, he and Walton, Stewart and Gary J. Brink won the Oscar for best production design in Behind the Spotlight (1979) by Bob Fosse with Roy Scheider , Jessica Lange and Leland Palmer . At the same time he was nominated for a British Academy Film Award (BAFTA Film Award) for the production design in this film .
