The Milchindustrie-Verband e. V. (MIV) represents the interests of around 80 companies in the dairy industry , including dairies , milk processing companies and companies in the supplier industry. The MIV operates both as a business and employers' association. Its members generate annual sales of around EUR 20 billion .

The dairy and cheese industry is the largest in the German food industry, followed by the meat and confectionery industry . Depending on which product groups are combined or which statistical material is used, the order of the three industries can vary.

The member dairies are both cooperatively organized dairies and privately owned dairies.

The association has its headquarters in Berlin , an office in Brussels and a representative office in Beijing .

activity

The association supports its members with technical questions. Via the affiliated Export-Union für Milchprodukte e. V. members are looked after in the export business .

There are discussion groups on the various products and their special features ( product groups on cheese / processed cheese, milk / fresh milk products, butter / spreads, long-life milk products). Other working groups deal with overarching questions on social policy, the environment, logistics, law, research, export, product safety / quality, procurement, PR , milk quota.

In the Scientific Advisory Board scientists from different disciplines represented (natural sciences, economics, law). The advisory board exchanges ideas with the association and its members on current issues.

At the MIV ideas exchange for research , innovations are sought and awarded in order to improve dairy technology, production and products.

The MIV compiles statistical evaluations of the supply and demand for milk products and cheese in cooperation with the Zentrale Milchmarkt Reporting GmbH on the basis of figures from the BMEL , the Federal Statistical Office and the butter and cheese exchanges.

The association is represented in committees at food fairs and participates in the work of the Codex Alimentarius .
